Tonight I'm writing from my parents' house. I am here because my car wouldn't start this morning. I should have known something was amiss on Sunday when it took a moment for the engine to catch. It's just cold, I told myself, and went on my merry way.
But no. This morning the car just wouldn't start.
Fortunately I was able to get a ride to the bus, and even more fortunately my dad works in the building over from me and was able to give me a ride home. My mechanic is in my hometown, which is convenient because I can drop my car off at the shop, spend the night at my folks', and then get a ride into work with my dad in the morning. My mechanic is also my former Little League coach, which means he won't scam me.
So tonight Dad drove me home from work. We had planned on jumping the car but it caught when I tried starting it (why couldn't it do that at 7 when I was leaving for work, eh??). I threw some stuff in a bag, Dad followed me to the repair shop, and now here I am, typing away at my parents' computer. Which, by the way, is a hell of a lot faster than mine, because mom and dad spring for cable internet and I'm still on dial up.
Ah well, they have been working all their lives and are nearing retirement, so let them spend money as they wish. Besides, I spring for DVR, and I would rather have that than fast Internet. As all my coworkers know :)
DVR: Greatest. Invention. Ever.
On that topic, let's take a poll: what are some of your favorite inventions, dear readers? What convenience would you not want to live without?
In addition to DVR, I am a big fan of indoor plumbing.
Also, I have a link o' the day: Superdickery.com. Don't worry, it's not porn. Be sure to check out the galleries. Remember, everything's better with monkeys.
